Oticon Reveal Is Here: Our First Weeks With the Dual-AI Hearing Aid

Oticon Reveal Is Here: Our First Weeks With the Dual-AI Hearing Aid

Oticon's new flagship runs two AI systems at once, one for speech and one for everything around it. Our founder Riley Williams and the Hello Hearing specialist team have been demoing it in the studios since launch. Here is what it does, what Oticon claims, and what an afternoon of demos with it actually sounds like.

What you need to know in 30 seconds

  • Oticon Reveal is the new flagship, the successor to the Intent, and it is available to demo at all five of our studios.
  • Two AI systems run at the same time: one brings voices forward, the other keeps the world around you sounding natural instead of flat.
  • Oticon reports a 60 percent stronger brain response to speech than Intent, and the independent HearAdvisor lab has now backed it with a 5.1 SoundScore in lab testing.
  • Rechargeable and rated for a full day — early reviews measure roughly 22 to 24 hours — with a quick top-up worth about four extra hours. Water-resistant (IP68), telecoil included, Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast working at launch, hands-free calling, all controlled from the Oticon Companion app.
  • Demos are free, and every purchase is backed by our 45-day trial.

Every couple of years a hearing aid comes through our studios that changes the conversation we have with patients. Oticon Reveal, announced in mid-August and in our hands since late August, is one of those. Our specialists spent the training days with it, we have worn it on our own ears, and we have watched it on the ears of people who came in expecting the usual incremental update. It is not the usual incremental update.

So rather than march through a spec sheet, here is what it is, followed by a walk through a demo afternoon with it. The performance numbers in this post are Oticon's, and we will say so each time. The impressions are ours.

Two AI systems, two different jobs

Most premium hearing aids run a single neural network that tries to do everything at once: find the voice, suppress the noise, keep the room sounding natural. Oticon's argument with Reveal is that those are two different jobs, and they should be handled by two different systems working at the same time.

The first is Speech AI. Its only job is to find the voices around you and bring them forward. You can set how wide it looks: Front for one-on-one, Wide for a table, or Full for a room. The second is Context AI. Its job is to recognize the sounds that are not speech, like the clatter of a kitchen, a car passing, music in the background, and decide how much of them to keep so the world does not go flat.

This lines up with Oticon's BrainHearing research going back a decade. Your brain does not want silence with one voice in it. It wants a clear voice sitting inside a natural scene, because that is how it orients, stays relaxed and fills in gaps. Oticon's internal research reports a 60 percent stronger brain response to speech compared with Intent, and 94 percent of study participants preferred the new processing when they heard the two side by side. And the independent HearAdvisor lab has since put its own numbers behind them: Reveal earned a 5.1 SoundScore, with perfect feedback handling and speech scores well above the category average in both quiet and noise. Every Reveal fitting at our studios still combines an expert hearing test with real-ear measurement verification, and your real-life experience over 45 days to back it up.

For the family tree: Reveal follows Oticon Intent, which launched in early 2024 and became one of the most fitted premium hearing aids in the country. Intent introduced the 4D Sensor, which reads your head and body movement along with the sound around you to guess what you are trying to listen to. Reveal keeps that sensor and builds the new engine on top of it. At launch it comes as a rechargeable miniRITE R in four technology levels, with the same size shell as Intent, an IP68 rating for dust and water, and a new, smaller CROS transmitter for single-sided hearing loss that shares the same charger.

An afternoon of demos

Demo days at our studios follow a route: a quiet conversation, then the busy front-of-house with the door open, then a phone call, then a walk outside. Here is what stood out with Reveal.

In the busy room it was the calmest premium aid we have demoed. Intent was already good at this, but Reveal kept voices anchored in a way that made the room feel smaller and easier. When someone walked up from the side and started talking, the focus moved with them without a lurch. The difference we kept hearing was not that noise disappeared. It was that the noise stopped competing with the voice. The room was still there. It just stayed in its lane.

The phone call was clean on both ends, and we did not have to touch anything. Hands-free calling on the previous generation could be finicky about which device it wanted to talk to; on Reveal it simply worked in the demos we ran.

Wind was the biggest surprise. Colorado wind is a real problem for hearing aid wearers, and Reveal handled a gusty afternoon without the roar we are used to hearing on almost everything.

Under the hood, minus the hype

Processing. On the top technology level, 64 processing channels and a 10 kHz bandwidth. More channels means more precise shaping of the sound to your specific hearing loss, and the wider bandwidth keeps consonants and high notes intact instead of smearing them.

Voice Clarifier. A directional system that updates its focus 500 times a second across 24 channels. In plain terms, when the person talking to you moves, or a new voice joins in, the hearing aid follows without you touching anything.

Wind and Handling Stabilizer 2.0. Oticon rates it at up to 40 decibels of wind and handling noise reduction, about 10 decibels better than the previous version. If you spend time outside, or you are one of the people who touches their hearing aids constantly, this is the line on the spec sheet to circle.

Reveal Optimizer. This is the feedback system, the thing that keeps you from whistling. Oticon says it is 30 percent faster and four times more precise than the last generation, which it claims allows up to 25 decibels more available gain than three top competing devices, with up to 91 percent predicted speech access. Those are bold lines from Oticon's own lab. What they mean for you: for someone with a more significant loss, extra stable headroom is the difference between a hearing aid that is comfortable and one that is comfortable and loud enough.

Bluetooth and controls. Made for iPhone, optimized for Android, with Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast broadcast audio working at launch, a telecoil for hearing loops, and hands-free calling. Oticon reports a 32 percent improvement in streaming range and 53 percent better connection stability over Intent; in our demos, calls simply worked. Everything is controlled from the Oticon Companion app.

Battery. Rechargeable and rated for a full day on an overnight charge. Early independent reviews measure roughly 22 to 24 hours depending on streaming, and a quick top-up in the charger buys about four extra hours if you forgot to dock it. There is a standard desk charger and an optional SmartCharger that runs on its own battery and holds up to three extra days of charge for travel.

Every Reveal fitting at Hello Hearing combines an expert hearing test with real-ear measurement, so the numbers on the spec sheet turn into a personalized, comfortable fit on your ears.

Who should come demo it

Reveal went straight to the top of our demo list for people whose week is full of conversation: the card table, the crowded kitchen when the whole family is over, the weekly meeting that actually matters. It is a strong choice if you take a lot of calls, if you live or work somewhere windy, or if your hearing loss sits in the moderate to severe range where stable gain is precious. And it is the obvious pick if you want Auracast, the broadcast standard arriving in airports and theaters, working today rather than promised for later.

If you are happy in Intent, keep wearing Intent. It is still an excellent hearing aid, and we will tell you that to your face. If your device is more than about four years old, or you are on a mid-tier aid and still fighting noise, book the demo.

Oticon Zeal, which launched earlier this year, stays in our lineup for people who want the most discreet option. Reveal is the performance choice; Zeal is the invisible choice.

One appointment, no brochure

Reveal is available for in-office demos at all five of our Colorado studios. Wear your current hearing aids into our noisiest room, then wear Reveal in the same spot, in the same conversation, and trust your own ears over anyone's marketing. If you take a pair home, we combine an expert hearing test and real-ear measurement with Reveal's new technology for a personalized, comfortable fit, with cleanings and follow-up adjustments included — and our 45-day trial means that if it is not the right device for you, you bring it back. Schedule online or call us, and if you are already an Oticon patient, mention it so we can pull up your fitting and talk about what an upgrade would actually change.
